May 5, 2014 – The 2014 Super Six Schools Rugby Fifteen’s Championship, Malaysia’s richest rugby tournament, concluded yesterday with The Malay College Kuala Kangsar winning The Yahaya Ahmad Cup beating inaugural winners Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman by 17-7 in Bangi. Yesterday’s playoff game, which is the culmination of a two-month long tournament, was graced by His Royal Highness the Raja Muda of Perak, Raja Dr Nazrin Shah Ibni Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah, who gave away The Cup to the winner. In the earlier round, STAR edged MCKK on goal difference after tying on points to become league champions for a second year running. Super Six Schools Rugby Fifteens is played between the best rugby schools in the country, over a 15 game round robin league format followed by a Cup, Plate and Bowl playoffs. The Plate and Bowl playoffs will be played this coming Saturday with Sekolah Menegah Sains Selangor taking on Sekolah Dato’ Abdul Razak in former and Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah versus Sekolah Menegah Sains Hulu Selangor in the Bowl latter. Yesterday’s match had an air of a major derby game, as the Cup pitted two of the fiercest rivals in schools competition, each with a long history of rugby tradition and legacy. The INSPEN stadium was filled to the rafters by a sea of supporters of mainly old boys and relatives that numbered over 1500 spectators all told, taking each other on with raucous singing of chants and cheers. STAR went in as favorites having beaten MCKK five times and loosing none in all competitions this year. But on the day, MCKK prevailed with
an early converted try in the first half, consolidated by a brace of tries in the second half. STAR’s only riposte was a penalty try awarded for illegal manhandling in the try zone late in the second half.
